It is a way to show honor and love. Many Hindus think of puja as hosting a dear guest. They treat a god like a special visitor in their home.

People perform puja in many ways. Some do it every day at home. Others go to a temple for big festivals. They might celebrate a new baby or a wedding. Some pujas happen during holidays like Diwali or Holi.

During the ritual, people use many items. They might light incense or a small lamp called a diya. They may use flowers, water, or rice. Some use a red powder on the forehead.

In some ceremonies, a priest helps with the prayers. In others, people pray alone. Sometimes, food or sweets are offered to a god. This food is then shared with everyone. It is called prasadam. This food is seen as a blessing. Some people also use puja to ask for help. They might pray for good health or success.
