These celebrations happen when the main crops are ready to pick. Because different places grow different things, these festivals happen at many times. People often feast on food from their farms.

In Britain, people have given thanks for many years. Some churches decorate with baskets of fruit and food. People also bring food from gardens or farms. They may give this food to the poor or seniors. In Ethiopia, the Oromo people celebrate Irreecha. This marks the end of the rainy season. In Asia, many people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Jewish people celebrate Sukkot in the autumn. They build a sukkah, which is a small hut. They eat and sleep inside it for a week. In the past, British farmers had a harvest supper. This was a big meal for everyone who helped. They might even have a race to finish the work first. Some workers would throw tools at the last corn to cut it down.
