Scientists find propylene in many places. It comes from forest fires and car exhaust. It is even found in space! NASA found it in the air of Titan. Titan is a moon of Saturn.

We use propylene to make many things. Most of it is used to make polypropylene. This is a type of plastic.

Workers use this plastic to make films and containers. It also makes fibers and small caps. People use propylene to make other chemicals too. One is called acrylic acid.

How do we make it? One way is steam cracking. This uses propane to make the gas. Another way uses naphtha. Naphtha is a liquid from oil. Some people use a process called olefin conversion. This uses special tools called catalysts to change gases. A catalyst helps a change happen faster.
