Most people think Aeschylus wrote it long ago. The story is about a Titan named Prometheus. He helped humans by giving them fire. He also taught them many useful arts. These included writing, math, and medicine. He even taught them how to build things.

Because he defied Zeus, a king, he was punished. Zeus had Prometheus chained to a rock.

Kratos and Bia helped tie him up. Hephaestus, a blacksmith god, also helped. Prometheus was left alone on a mountain. A group of sea girls came to visit. They are the daughters of Oceanus. They felt sad for his hard life.

Another person named Io also visits. She had a very hard life because of Zeus. Prometheus tells her about her future family. He says a hero named Heracles will one day free him. At the end, a big storm hits. Zeus sends a whirlwind and lightning. Prometheus is taken down into the earth. This play shows a struggle for what is fair.
