He lived during a time called the Hussite Wars. This was a period of much fighting and change. Prokop was a very important general for the Taborite forces. The Taborites were a group of people who wanted big changes. He was also a priest from a well-known family in Prague. His family had German roots and lived in the city.

Prokop led his armies through many different steps. First, he studied in Prague and traveled to many foreign lands. When he returned to Bohemia, he became a strong military leader. He led the Taborites to big victories over their enemies. In 1426, his forces won at Ústí nad Labem. Later, in 1431, they won a great victory at Domažlice. These wins were very important for his people. These victories even led to peace talks in 1432.

History tells us many things about his life and work. Prokop was born around the year 1380. He was not the person who took over right after Jan Žižka. Instead, he rose to power during the later part of the wars. He led his army into places like Hungary and Germany. In 1429, a large Bohemian army went into Saxony and Nuremberg. Prokop worked to make peace through treaties. On February 6, 1430, he signed a treaty at Kulmbach. This treaty meant the Hussites would leave German lands.

Things became very difficult for Prokop later on. He went to a city called Basel in 1433 to talk. When he came home, there was new trouble in Bohemia. Prokop led an army to besiege the city of Plzeň. However, his own soldiers began to revolt against him. This caused the Bohemian nobles to form a league. They wanted to stop the radical power of the Taborites. The fighting moved toward the city of Prague. Prokop tried to defend the New Town but could not.

Prokop's story ended in a final battle. He asked Prokop the Lesser to help him fight. They led the army of the towns against the nobles. This fight happened at the Battle of Lipany. The battle took place on May 30, 1434. The Taborites lost this battle very decisively. Both men named Prokop died during the fight. People still remember him in many ways today. In 1917, a rifle regiment was named after him. He also appears in films and video games now.
