The Everglades crayfish is a small animal.

It lives in fresh water. This species is endemic to Florida. Endemic means it is only found in one place. It lives in Florida from Levy and Marion counties south. It also lives east of the St. Johns River. Some live on the Florida Keys too.

In the wild, these crayfish can look different. They can be blue. They can also be brown or tan.

Many people keep them in aquaria. An aquarium is a tank for water animals. People breed them to get a bright color. They make a brilliant cobalt blue color. This is a deep, bright blue.

Do not mix this animal up with another one. There is a blue crayfish in Pennsylvania. That one lives in Virginia and West Virginia. It is a different species. The Everglades crayfish is on the IUCN Red List. It is listed as a species of Least Concern. This means it is doing well in the wild.
