The Arabian Peninsula is a huge land with many different environments. It covers 2.5 million square kilometers of territory. This area includes modern countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Oman. Most of the inside of the land is covered by vast sand dunes. However, there is also a long coastline that stretches for 7,000 kilometers.

People have lived here for a very long time. The earliest human settlements date back 240,000 to 190,000 years ago.

Life in the peninsula changed as the weather changed. In the past, rainfall patterns moved people around. Some groups moved from Africa to settle along the eastern coast. Later, people began to settle in the south and inland areas. By about 6,000 years ago, many people became nomadic pastoralists. This means they moved with their animals to find food. They may have learned this from neighbors or developed it through trade.

In Eastern Arabia, a famous civilization called Dilmun grew very strong. Dilmun was a major center for trade during the Bronze Age. Its capital was located in what is now Bahrain. The land had plenty of underground water and good spots for ships to anchor. This helped Dilmun connect with places as far as the Indus Valley.

The Sumerian people in Mesopotamia even wrote about Dilmun in their stories. They described it as a holy land or a paradise garden.

Some people think these stories helped inspire the Garden of Eden.

Different kingdoms and empires ruled different parts of the land. In the north, the Nabataean Kingdom was a powerful group. The Roman Empire conquered them in 106 CE. This brought Roman influence to the region.

In the east, the city of Gerrha became a huge center for trade. It helped move luxury goods and aromatics through the Gulf region.

Religion was also very diverse before the seventh century. For a long time, most people practiced polytheism. This means they believed in many different gods. By the fourth century, new religions like Christianity and Judaism became more common. This happened because of travelers and the influence of empires.
