Much of the silver was sent to Spain. Some went to Mexico or even to Asia.

The city has a cold climate. It has a long dry season and a short wet season. You can see old buildings in the city center. These buildings are part of a special World Heritage Site. Potosí is still a big place for mining today. It sits on one of the largest silver deposits in the world. Long ago, people made silver coins at a mint in the city.
