He lived near the Detroit River long ago. Many Native Americans were unhappy with the British. The British changed how they traded goods. They also stopped giving gifts to tribal leaders. This made people worry about their future.

In 1763, Pontiac led a fight against the British.

He and 300 followers tried to take Fort Detroit. The plan did not work. Pontiac then led a siege on the fort. He was joined by 900 warriors from other tribes. The fighting spread to many other forts in the Ohio Valley.

Pontiac could not take the fort. He later moved to the Illinois Country. The British wanted to end the war. They worked with Pontiac to find peace. In 1766, he signed a treaty with Sir William Johnson. This treaty stopped the fighting. Some other leaders were unhappy with this peace. In 1769, Pontiac was killed by a Peoria warrior.
