During the 1800s, many new people moved to these lands. This caused much fighting between the Apache and the settlers. In 1861, a mistake led to a big war. An Army officer tried to arrest Cochise for something he did not do. Cochise escaped, but the fighting continued for many years. He fought to protect his people and their home.
