Pole sports mix dance and acrobatics. Athletes use a tall metal pole. They climb, spin, and flip. They can even hang upside down. This sport needs strength and balance. It also needs flexibility.

A study in 2017 showed how it helps. It can improve posture and muscle strength. Many people do it. Men and women of all ages join in. Some are para-athletes. These are people with different physical abilities. They can perform alone or in teams.

In a contest, athletes dance to music. Judges look at their style. They watch for hard tricks and poses. In big meets, poles are made of brass. They are about 45 mm wide. Athletes use two kinds of poles. Some stay still. Others spin around.

Poling has a long history. In India, people used a wooden pole for mallakhamba. This is an old form of wrestling. In China, pole climbing is very old too. It may have started from climbing trees. Today, people practice in gyms and studios all over the world.
