They are famous for their bright colors. These colors are a warning. This is called aposematism. It tells predators that the frog is not good to eat.

Most of these frogs are small. They get their poison from their food. They eat tiny bugs like ants, mites, and termites. The frogs take the toxins from these bugs and keep them in their skin. This happens in tiny parts of the skin called granular glands.

Because they get poison from food, captive frogs are not toxic. If they eat the right bugs again, they can become toxic. Some frogs are very strong. The golden poison frog is the most toxic. Its poison could kill many men.

These frogs are also good parents. They lay eggs in moist places like leaves. When the eggs hatch, the adults carry the tadpoles on their backs. They move them to safe water in plants. This helps the babies grow safely.
