This region is a very special part of the country. It is known as the "Green Lungs of Poland" because of its many forests.

The land has a very varied shape. In the north, the ground is hilly with many lakes. These include the Zachodniosuwalskie and Wschodniosuwalskie lake districts.

The center and south have large plains. The surface is made of things like sand, gravel, and clay. You can also find river peat in the valleys. These different features make the landscape very interesting to explore.

Podlaskie has a long and interesting history. The region takes its name from the historic land of Podlasie. Some people think the name means "area of forests." This comes from an old word for wood. Others believe the name means "near the Poles." This might refer to the area being near the border of Poland. The current version of the region was created on January 1, 1999.

The environment is full of life and wonder.
