Pines make woody cones. Two seeds grow on each scale of a cone. The wind can carry these seeds to new places. Some seeds are even moved by birds.

These trees can live a very long time. Some can live for 1,000 years. One tree is even 4,800 years old!

Some pines need fire to grow. Heat from a fire can melt the sticky sap. This helps the cones open to let seeds out. This lets new trees grow in the burnt ground.

People use pine wood for many things. It is used to make floors and windows. People also eat pine nuts in food.
