Many trees have thin leaves like needles.

These trees often stay green all year. They use cones to make seeds. The wind carries the seeds to new places.

Some of these trees are very big. The coast redwood is the tallest tree.

Other trees are very old. One pine tree is 4,700 years old!

These trees have a special shape. They look like a cone. This shape helps snow slide off. A waxy coating on the leaves keeps water in. This helps them live in the cold.

Trees make a sticky sap. This sap can trap bugs. It also seals up cuts on the wood. This keeps the tree safe.

People use these trees for many things. We use them to make paper. We also use them for wood. They are very important plants.
