He was born in 1809. His family was quite poor. His mother taught him to read when he was very young. He loved books and spent much time in libraries. He even taught himself Latin to help with his work.

Pierre worked as a printer. This job let him read many books. He met a man named Charles Fourier. Their talks changed how Pierre thought about the world. Later, Pierre moved to Paris to study philosophy. He won a bronze medal for an essay he wrote.

He is often called the father of anarchism. This is a way of thinking about how people live together. One of his most famous ideas was about property. He wrote that "property is theft!" in a book from 1840.

He also knew Karl Marx. They wrote letters to each other for a while. But they soon had big disagreements. These fights helped split different groups of thinkers apart. Pierre also wanted to help workers. He hoped to make a bank that gave loans without interest.
