He has written more than 100 books. He is a philosopher. This means he studies big ideas about life. He is also an atheist. This means he does not believe in a god.

Onfray follows a way of life called hedonism. He says we should seek joy. We should find pleasure for ourselves and others. But we must never hurt anyone to do this. He thinks we should enjoy things like music and good food.

He also loves to teach. He started a place called the Université populaire. This is a people's university in Caen. It is free for everyone to attend. He uses money from his books to pay for it. This helps people who cannot go to regular college.

Onfray has written many books about the history of ideas. He calls this his Counter-History of Philosophy. He wants to show ideas that focus on the earth. He thinks many old books focus too much on heaven. He even has an asteroid named after him! It was named 289992 Onfray.
