Raymond Aron was a famous thinker from France. He was born in Paris in 1905. He was a philosopher and a historian. He also studied how groups of people act. We call this sociology.

Aron wrote many books and articles. One famous book was called The Opium of the Intellectuals. In this book, he shared his views on politics. He was known for being a moderate. This means he often looked for a middle way. He did not like extreme ideas. He spoke out against systems that took all power.

Aron had a long friendship with Jean-Paul Sartre. They were both great thinkers. However, they often disagreed on big ideas. People in France even had a funny saying about them. They said it was better to be wrong with Sartre than right with Aron.

During World War II, Aron joined the air force. He went to London to help the Free French forces. He worked on a newspaper there. Later, he became a teacher at many schools. He taught in Paris for many years. Aron died in Paris in 1983. He left behind a huge body of work.
