Epicurus was a famous thinker from ancient Greece.

He lived a long time ago. He started a school called The Garden in Athens. At his school, people lived together in a group. They shared their things and ate simple meals.

Epicurus wanted to help people find calm lives. He thought being free from fear was very important. He also believed that having good friends helped a lot.

Epicurus had big ideas about how the world works. He said everything is made of tiny bits called atoms. These atoms move through empty space. He said atoms sometimes "swerve" or change their path. This idea meant that humans have free will. This means we can make our own choices.

Epicurus also taught that gods exist. However, he said the gods do not get involved in human lives. Even when he was very sick, he tried to stay happy. He used his thoughts to find peace until the very end.
