Teachers use many ways to help students learn. One way is a lecture. In a lecture, the teacher talks to the class. This is a very common way to teach. Another way is called recitation. This is also known as the Socratic method. In this way, the teacher asks many questions. This helps students use their own thoughts.

Teachers also use demonstrations. A teacher performs an experiment for the class to watch. Students can ask questions about what they see. In a laboratory, students do the work themselves. They use tools to collect data. This gives them practical experience. It helps them act like real scientists.

Some students work in small groups. They study a hard problem together. This is called problem-based learning. It helps students talk and work well with others. Researchers study these teaching ways. They want to find the best ways for students to learn. This field is called physics education research.
