Outline of physics

physical science Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Physics is a way to study the natural world. It helps us understand how the universe behaves. The universe includes all space, time, and matter. It also includes all power and the laws of nature.

Everything is made of tiny parts called atoms. Atoms are always in motion. They pull on each other when they are near. They push away if they are squeezed too close. Physics looks at how these atoms move through space and time.

There are many branches of physics. Astronomy studies the universe beyond Earth. It looks at stars, planets, and galaxies. Astrophysics studies the physical parts of these objects.

Some physics studies how light works. This is called optics. Other parts study how things move. Mechanics is the study of how forces change motion. This includes fluid mechanics, which looks at how liquids and gases move.

Physics can also help us study living things. This is called biophysics. It uses physics to look at biological systems. Doctors even use physics in medicine. They use it for things like X-rays and scans.
