Phil Hellmuth is a famous professional poker player from the United States.

He is considered one of the greatest tournament players ever. People know him for winning seventeen World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. These bracelets are special awards given to winners of big games. Most of his wins come from a game called no-limit hold'em. He is also the only person to win a bracelet in five different decades. This shows he can stay a top player for a very long time.

Winning a poker tournament takes a lot of skill and focus. Players must make smart choices with their cards to win money. Phil often waits to take his seat until a tournament is already moving. He has won many different kinds of games during his career. These include Seven-Card Razz and Omaha hold'em. He even won a big game called the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship. Some of his wins happened on three days in a row. This takes great energy and a very strong mind.

Phil's journey started in Madison, Wisconsin. He went to Madison West High School when he was younger. He later attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison for three years. Eventually, he left school to play poker full-time. In 1988, he had his first big finish in a Seven Card Stud game. Then, in 1989, he won the WSOP Main Event. At age 24, he was the youngest person to win that big game. His record was not broken until 2008 by Peter Eastgate.

Phil has earned a huge amount of money from playing. As of December 2024, his live tournament winnings are over $30,000,000. In 2012, he won the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event. This made him the first person to win both the WSOP and WSOPE Main Events. He also won a very large prize in the "Big One for One Drop" tournament. This single win was the biggest prize of his career. He was even put into the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame in 2007.

When he is not playing poker, Phil has a busy life. He lives in Palo Alto, California, with his wife and two sons. His wife, Katherine Sanborn, works at Stanford University. Phil is also a big fan of the Golden State Warriors basketball team. He often goes to their games with the team owner, Joe Lacob. He has even shared his knowledge by writing many books about poker. He also makes videos to help others learn how to play the game.
