He was born on August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska. His father, Howard Buffett, was a businessman and a U.S. congressman. From a very young age, Warren showed a huge interest in business. He read a book about making money when he was only seven. As a boy, he sold gum, magazines, and Coca-Cola door to door. He even ran a small business with pinball machines in local barber shops.

Warren learned how to grow money through careful study. He attended the Wharton School and the University of Nebraska. Later, he went to Columbia Business School to study economics. At Columbia, he learned from a famous teacher named Benjamin Graham. Graham taught a method called value investing. This means finding companies that are worth more than their current price. This idea became the main rule for how Warren makes his decisions. He also studied at the New York Institute of Finance to learn more.

His professional career grew through many different steps. In 1951, he worked at his father's firm as a salesman. He later worked as an analyst for Benjamin Graham. In 1956, Warren started his own investment group called Buffett Partnership Ltd. He eventually bought a textile company called Berkshire Hathaway. He became the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway in 1970. In 1978, his long-time friend Charlie Munger joined him as vice-chairman. Together, they led the company to become a massive global business.

Warren has achieved incredible success with his investments. By 1962, he had become a millionaire through his partnerships. He made smart moves with companies like GEICO and the Washington Post.

He even helped finance the sale of ABC in 1985. As of January 2026, his net worth was about $148.9 billion. This makes him the ninth-richest person on Earth. People in the news sometimes call him the "Oracle" of Omaha because of his success.

Even with his huge wealth, Warren lives a very simple life. He follows the idea of frugality, which means being careful with money. He also cares deeply about helping other people through charity. In 2010, he helped start The Giving Pledge with Bill and Melinda Gates. This is a promise for very rich people to give away at least half of their money. Warren has pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune. Most of this money goes to the Gates Foundation to help the world.
