Nature has shaped the land in many interesting ways. The coastline has many different types of areas. Some beaches, like Kê Gà and Tiến Thành, are very quiet and calm. This makes them great for swimming and relaxing. Other parts of the coast have many hotels and shops. In the Phú Hài ward, the land rises into hills. Many resorts there are built high above the water. You can see small beaches and hidden coves in this area.

The history of this place goes back many centuries. Long ago, the Cham people lived here. They called the land "Hamu Lithit," which means a hamlet near the sea. Later, the Vietnamese people arrived and changed the name. In the 15th century, a Cham Prince named Po Thit lived there. His military camp was called Camp Po Thit. This name eventually became the modern name Phan Thiết. In 1898, the city was officially made a provincial capital.
