He was born in a town called Imola. Around the year 433, he became the Bishop of Ravenna. Ravenna was a very important capital city back then.

Peter was known for his short talks. These talks are called homilies. He kept them brief so people would not get tired.

Because his words were so good, people gave him a new name. They called him "golden-worded."

He used simple words to explain many ideas. He wrote about the life of Jesus and Mary. He also spoke about how to live a good life. Many people admire his work today. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches both call him a saint.

In 1729, he was named a Doctor of the Church. This is a special honor for teachers of the faith. Peter died around the year 450. He died while visiting his home town of Imola. People still celebrate his life on special feast days.
