He was a general in the Argentine Army. He served as the President of Argentina from 1955 to 1958. His life was full of big changes for his country. He was born on May 21, 1903, in Río Cuarto. His parents both came from Spain. His father was from Zestoa and his mother was from Zuriáin. He grew up with eight siblings in his family.

Aramburu rose through the ranks of the military over many years. He studied at the National Military College. In 1922, he became a sub-lieutenant. By 1939, he was a major. He later became a teacher at the War School in 1943. He reached the rank of Brigadier in 1951. Eventually, he became the Commander in Chief of the Army in 1955. Later, he reached the rank of Lieutenant general.

In 1955, a military event called the Revolución Libertadora took place. This event removed Juan Perón from power. Perón had been hard on the news media. He also put opposition leaders in jail. Because of this, the military took control of the government. Aramburu led this military rule for three years. During his time, he sent Perón to live in Spain. He also changed the laws back to the version from 1853/60. He promised to let the people vote again soon.

After his time as president ended in 1958, Aramburu stayed in politics. He ran for president again in 1963. He led a group called the Union of the Argentine People. His slogan was "Vote UDELPA and HE won't return." He was talking about Perón. In that election, Arturo Umberto Illia became the president. Aramburu finished in third place. Even though he was not president, the military still held much power in the land.

In 1970, a group called the Montoneros took Aramburu from his home.

This happened on May 29 in Buenos Aires. Two people pretending to be army officers took him. This event was called Operación Pindapoy. The group did this because of things that happened in 1956. In 1956, many people who supported Perón were executed. The Montoneros killed Aramburu three days after the kidnapping. His death was a very sad part of Argentine history.
