Paul Pimsleur was a man who loved languages. He was a scholar and a teacher. He studied how people learn to speak new ways of talking. He looked closely at how children learn. Children learn without knowing all the rules. He called this organic learning.

Paul worked at many big schools. He taught at Ohio State University. There, he made a special Listening Center. It was one of the largest in the country. People used tapes and phones to study. They could learn at their own pace.

He also studied why some people find languages hard. He found three things that help us learn. These are verbal intelligence, hearing ability, and motivation. He made a test called the PLAB to check these skills. It helps students today.

Paul made the Pimsleur Language Programs. His work changed how we teach. He even helped start a group called ACTFL. Now, a special award is named for him. It honors people who study how to teach languages. He died in France in 1976.
