That year, 400 athletes came from 23 countries. Today, the games are much larger. The 2020 Summer Games had 4,520 athletes from 163 countries.

There are Summer and Winter Games. They often happen near the Olympic Games. This lets athletes use the same big stadiums. The games are run by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The IPC is based in Bonn, Germany.

The Paralympic flag has three colors: red, blue, and green. These colors are in shapes called Agitos. Agito is a Latin word that means "I move." The shapes show athletes coming together from all over the world. The motto for the movement is "Spirit in Motion."
