Some parakeets live in big cities. For example, monk parakeets live in New York City. They also live in Chicago. In the United Kingdom, rose-ringed parakeets are doing very well. These birds may have come from pets that were let go.

Parakeets often breed in groups. Being with other birds helps them make babies. A budgie usually lays 4 to 6 eggs. Some other parakeets lay the same amount. Some species, like the Carolina parakeet, are now extinct. This means they do not live on Earth anymore.
