He was part of a great trio of artists in Venice. This group included Titian and Tintoretto. Together, they dominated Venetian painting during the cinquecento. Veronese loved to create huge history paintings. These works often showed religious stories or ancient myths. His art is famous for its sparkling, grand scenes.

Veronese used a very specific way to make his art. He painted with a radiant and natural style. He often used oil on canvas for his work.

To make his colors look even better, he used premium materials. For one big project, he used lapis-lazuli to make blue paint. This is a precious mineral used for color. He also used complex perspective to show depth. This made his paintings look like real spaces. He even used a trick called trompe-l'œil to fool the eye. This made flat walls look like they had real shapes.

His life began in the city of Verona.

He was born around the year 1528. His father, Gabriele, worked as a stonecutter. Because of this, Veronese was first called Paolo Spezapreda. He later took the name Veronese from his birthplace. He also used the name Paolo Caliari later in life. This was because his mother was related to a nobleman. He began learning to paint as an apprentice. He studied under Antonio Badile and Giovanni Francesco Caroto. By age fifteen, his talent was already very high.

Veronese moved to Venice in 1553 to find more work.
