People use it to store food and drinks. It can also hold dishes, linens, or cleaning tools.

In the past, pantries were very important. In the Middle Ages, a pantry was a dry room for bread. A person called a pantler was in charge of it. Other homes had a larder for meat and a buttery for barrels of drinks.

Some pantries were made to stay cool. Before we had modern fridges, people used a "cold pantry." This is also called a California cooler. It used vents to move air. Warm air went out the top. Cool air came in the bottom. This kept eggs, milk, and fruit fresh.
