Many people call him a founding father of Russian math. As a child, he walked with a stick. This made it hard to play many games. Instead, he spent his time on math.

He studied many different things. He looked at probability, which is the study of chance. He also studied statistics, which is the study of data. He worked on mechanics, which is how things move. He even studied number theory, which looks at patterns in numbers.

Many math ideas now carry his name. There is the Chebyshev inequality. This is a rule used to help prove other math laws. There are also Chebyshev polynomials. These are special kinds of math expressions. He even found a way to use math to cut cloth for clothes.
