Later, he studied at a big university. He learned from many great teachers.

Markov found a way to study patterns. He looked at a book called Eugene Onegin. He studied the first 20,000 letters in it. He looked at how vowels and consonants follow each other. This work showed how events in a chain depend on each other. We call these patterns Markov chains.

Markov was also a very good chess player. He worked with his brother, Vladimir. Together, they proved the Markov brothers' inequality. His son was also a math expert. Andrey Markov taught many classes. He taught things like probability theory. This is the study of how likely things are to happen. He died in 1922 at age 66.
