He studied many things. He liked history, math, and science. He also loved art and music.

He is best known for his big book. It is called *The Decline of the West*. In this book, he shared a unique idea. He believed that human cultures are like living things. He thought they grow and then they fade away. He said this happens in a set way.

His ideas were very popular in Germany. Many people read his work. Some thinkers did not agree with him. They thought his ideas were not scientific.

Spengler also wrote about technology. He warned that machines could hurt culture. He was a nationalist. This means he loved his country. However, he did not like the Nazi party. He disagreed with their ideas about race. This led to him being left alone by them.

In his later years, he lived in Munich. He collected old weapons and read many books. He died in 1936.
