Ospreys eat almost only fish. They have a special way to hunt. First, the bird sees a fish from the air. It hovers for a moment. Then, it dives feet first into the water. Sometimes, the bird goes under the water completely.

To hold slippery fish, the osprey has special feet. Its outer toe can move to the back. This lets it grab prey with two toes in front and two behind. The underside of its toes also has sharp scales called spicules. These help the bird hold on tight.

Ospreys build very large nests. They use sticks, seaweed, and driftwood. These nests can be two meters wide. Some nests are built on poles or rocks. They can even weigh a lot.
