The land here is very green and lush. More than 60% of the land is forest land. There are many natural springs and high hills. These things help make the weather feel cool and mild. The seas around the coast are full of fish.

This makes the region a great place for marine life. It is a very beautiful and natural place to visit.

The name of the region comes from its place on the island. Americans gave it this name a long time ago. Some people have suggested a new name for the area. They want to call it the Amihanan region. This name comes from the Cebuano language. It means "northern area" in that language. Most people in the region speak Cebuano every day.

Many different kinds of people live in Northern Mindanao. Most people came from places like Cebu and Bohol. Some people are native to the inner highlands. These groups are called the Bukidnons and Manobos.

The region is a busy place for work and trade. It has the second largest economy on Mindanao island. Much of the work involves farming and growing crops. For example, Del Monte Philippines is in Bukidnon. They have a plant in Cagayan de Oro to ship food.
