A man named Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille found these stars. He was a French astronomer. He studied 10,000 stars in the south. He drew many new star groups in 1751. Most of them were named after tools. This was to honor the Age of Enlightenment. The Milky Way galaxy passes through Norma too.

Some stars in Norma are very special. Mu Normae is a very bright star. It is one of the most luminous stars known. It may shine 500,000 times brighter than our Sun. Four star systems in Norma also have planets.
