Most Christians believe in the Trinity. This is the idea that God is three persons in one. They are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Some groups do not believe this. They are called nontrinitarians. These groups have many different ideas. Some think God is only one person. Others think the three parts are just different roles. This view is called modalism.

Other groups have ideas about Jesus. Some believe Jesus is God's highest creation. They think he was made by the Father. This was a view called Arianism. Other people thought Jesus became divine later in his life. This was called adoptionism.

Some thinkers even thought there were three separate gods. They believed these gods worked together as one group. These ideas have existed for a very long time. Some ideas appeared before the year 325. Many groups still hold these views today. They include Jehovah's Witnesses and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
