These islands sit in Chuuk. They are part of the Federated States of Micronesia. They lie southeast of Chuuk Lagoon.

Many islands make up this group. Satawan is the largest atoll. It sits in the south. Etal is to the north. Lukunor is to the northeast. These two are much smaller than Satawan. Some islands sit close together. These are Losap, Nama, and Namoluk. People call them the Upper Mortlock Islands. Other islands include Ta, Oneop, Moch, Picemwar, and Kuttu.

People may have lived here for 800 or 900 years. They moved east from Chuuk Lagoon. Spanish explorers saw the islands in 1528. Later, Captain James Mortlock saw them in 1795. This is why they are also called the Mortlock Islands. Much history was lost due to war and disasters. People still keep many traditions here. They speak the Mortlockese language. It sounds like Satawalese and Puluwatese. It is also close to the Chuukese language.
