It is the second major part of the Christian Bible. Many Christians call these books Sacred Scripture. The first part of the Bible is known as the Old Testament. Together, these two parts form the whole Christian Bible. These texts were mostly written in a language called Koine Greek.

They tell stories about the life of Jesus and early Christian history.

These books tell the story of Jesus's life, death, and resurrection. Next, there is a book called the Acts of the Apostles. This book acts as a sequel to the Gospel of Luke. It describes what the apostles did after Jesus died.

Finally, there are many letters called epistles.

These books did not appear all at once. The collection grew slowly over several centuries. Early leaders had to decide which writings were truly important. They looked for writings that came from the original apostles. This process involved much debate and many different opinions. By the late 4th century, the 27 books were officially set.

Scholars believe many texts were written in the mid-to-late first century. Some of the earliest surviving pieces are very old manuscripts.

Many different people wrote these important texts. The Gospels are attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Paul the Apostle is credited with writing thirteen letters. These letters were sent to specific Christian groups in different cities. Some of these letters were written to help people live better lives. Some scholars debate if Paul wrote every single one of them. Others look at the style of the writing to find the truth. These letters often discuss how to lead a church.

Today, people view the New Testament in many ways. Different Christian groups have different ideas about these books. For example, Catholics view them alongside Sacred Tradition.
