New Scientist is a popular magazine about science and technology.

It helps people learn about the world and new inventions. The magazine is based in London. It comes out every week in English. You can find it in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. People can read it on paper or on a computer. It covers news, big stories, and reviews. It even talks about deep ideas and how science changes our lives.

Reading the magazine is like going on a journey through discovery.

It works by sharing news and deep features. It also includes commentary and reviews. Some parts are for fun, like cartoons and puzzles. There is a section called Last Word where people ask hard questions. The magazine then provides answers to those questions. They even turn these questions into books for people to read.

This magazine has a long history that started many years ago.

Three men named Tom Margerison, Max Raison, and Nicholas Harrison founded it. They called it The New Scientist. The very first issue was published on 22 November 1956. Back then, it only cost one shilling. In the early years, the covers only had plain text. They did not use pictures on the covers until 1965. They also did not use much color until the 1970s.

Many different groups have owned the magazine over the years.

In 1970, the Reed Group bought it. Later, a group called Kingston Acquisitions took over in April 2017. This group was started by Sir Bernard Gray, Louise Rogers, and Matthew O'Sullivan. In March 2021, the magazine was sold to Daily Mail and General Trust. They paid £70 million for it. This new owner promised to keep the science writing independent. They also promised not to cut staff members.

New Scientist connects to many things you might see today.

It has a monthly Dutch edition that started in June 2015. This version uses articles from the English magazine. It also has stories about research in the Netherlands and Belgium. Since 2016, the magazine has also held a big event. This event is called New Scientist Live. It is a science festival held in London. It brings together famous scientists and presenters for everyone to enjoy.
