arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

For a long time, big movie studios ran everything. They made the rules for every film. But in the mid-1960s, things began to change. More people were watching television at home. This meant movie studios were losing money. They needed a way to find new fans. They found these fans among young people.

To reach them, studios hired a new group of filmmakers. These directors had a lot of power. They did not always follow old rules. They told stories in fresh, bold ways.

One famous movie was Bonnie and Clyde. It had funny parts and scary parts. It was a huge hit. Another big movie was The Graduate. It was about a young man who felt out of place.
