Sunlight can reach the bottom in this zone. We call this the photic zone. This light is very important. It helps tiny plants grow. These plants make food for other life. This includes small fish and shrimp.

Many animals live here. Corals also like this zone. They stay in the water and do not move. This area has plenty of oxygen. The water temperature stays mostly the same. It also has low water pressure. Because of this, most sea life lives here. It helps support the world's big fisheries.
