It is one of the largest libraries in the world. It helps leaders research laws and public policy. It is like the Library of Congress in the United States.

Long ago, three different libraries existed in Japan. After World War II, leaders wanted to change how things worked. They wanted to make Japan more democratic. A man named Hani Gorō helped lead these changes. In 1948, the new library opened with 100,000 books. In 1949, it joined with the National Library. This gave the library one million more books.

The library has many big buildings. The main building is in Tokyo.

This branch holds 6 million items. The library has many special things to show. It has 440,000 maps. It also has 300,000 vinyl records. Some books are very old. One rare book is a first edition from the year 1547.

Most people who use the library are not leaders. They are members of the public who want to learn.
