Nanling Mountains

geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

The Nanling Mountains sit in Southern China. They mark a line between the north and the south. These mountains sit between four provinces. These are Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, and Jiangxi.

The mountains are not very high. The highest point is Kitten Mountain. The Nanling are a special place for nature. Many plants, birds, and frogs live here. Some of these animals live only in these mountains.

There are low paths through the mountains. These paths make it easy for people to travel. Long ago, there were five ancient roads. These roads helped groups of people move and meet.

The land in the mountains looks different in different spots. The west has limestone rocks. The east has red sandstone.

To the south, the weather is warm. Farmers can grow white rice two times each year. People also mine special clay in this area. This clay is a major source of rare earth elements for the world.
