Many travelers visit the town. They go there to get used to the high air. This is called altitude acclimatization. The town has many stores and cafes. You can find German bakeries there. You can also find an Irish pub. It is said to be the highest in the world! Some people eat yak steak for a meal.

On Saturday mornings, there is a big market. People also sell clothes and goods from China.

The town gets power from water. A plant near Thame makes electricity. It opened in October 1995. The weather can be cold and dry in winter. Summers are wet and pleasant. This is because of the high mountains and the monsoon season.
