Muskies are great hunters. They are ambush predators. This means they hide and wait to surprise their food. They have long bodies and flat heads. They often hide near weeds or rocks.

A muskie can eat many things. It eats fish, frogs, and even ducks. It has a large stomach. It can swallow prey that is two-thirds its own length! They usually swallow food head first.

These fish live in many places. You can find them in North America. They live in lakes and rivers in the United States and Canada.

Muskies are top hunters. In their homes, very few animals hunt them. Only humans and some large birds like bald eagles might hunt an adult muskie. Small young muskies are more at risk. Other fish and birds often eat them. Because they grow slowly, we must be careful not to catch too many.
