People become instrumentalists when they learn to play these objects. Any object can become an instrument if it is used for this purpose. Humans first made sounds with their bodies by clapping. Later, they began using objects to make music.

Finding the first instrument is a hard job for scholars. Many early tools were made of bone, wood, or skin. These materials rot away over time. This makes it hard to know exactly when music began. One famous bone flute was found in Slovenia.
