Many different waters feed into the Moskva. These include the Ruza, Istra, and Skhodnya rivers. The river gets most of its water from melting snow. About 61% comes from thaw, while 27% comes from underground. Since the Moscow Canal was finished in 1937, it also gets water from the Upper Volga. This helps ships move even when there is a summer drought.
