Moses is a very important figure in many religions. He is a major prophet in Judaism and Samaritanism. He is also highly respected in Christianity and Islam. People in the Baháʼí Faith also honor him. Many people call him the lawgiver of Israel. This is because he delivered important laws to his people. These laws are found in the Torah, which is the first part of the Hebrew Bible.

His story begins in ancient Egypt during a difficult time. The Israelites were living there as an enslaved group. A Pharaoh was worried about their growing numbers. He ordered that all newborn Hebrew boys be killed. To save him, Moses' mother, Jochebed, hid him in the bulrushes by the Nile river.

The Pharaoh's daughter found the baby and adopted him. This meant Moses grew up as part of the Egyptian royal family. Later in life, Moses fled to a place called Midian after a conflict with an Egyptian.

While in the desert, Moses had a famous encounter with God. He saw a bush that was on fire but did not burn up. This happened on Mount Horeb. God spoke to him from the bush and gave him a big job. Moses had to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt.

Moses was not a smooth speaker, so his brother Aaron helped him. After ten plagues in Egypt, the people left. They crossed the Red Sea to find freedom.

Once they were free, the Israelites traveled to Mount Sinai. There, Moses received the Ten Commandments on stone tablets. These laws helped the people know how to live.

The people wandered in the desert for forty years. During this time, they faced many hard moments. Eventually, Moses led them near the Promised Land. He died at the age of 120 on Mount Nebo.

He could see the land from the mountain, but he did not enter it.

Historians and scholars have many different ideas about Moses. Some believe he was a real person from the 13th century BCE. Others think his story is a legend or a myth. It is hard to prove because there are no traces of him outside of religious traditions.

Some scholars argue that he might be a mix of history and legend. Regardless of the facts, Moses is a huge part of art and culture. You can find him in famous paintings, music, and even films. His name has even been studied by linguists to find its roots.
